Grape storehouses

Partially-underground storehouses were made by excavating in the surface of the vineyards and erecting stone walls to maintain constant temperature and humidity. They were used to store the harvested grapes. By doing so, it became possible to control the amount of grapes that were shipped out, and the supply and price of grapes sold to the city was stabilized, which led to an increased production of grapes. The storehouses were used until refrigerators became commonplace in the 1950s.
